LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
KNOll to Windfarm, the Action Group set up to oppose the proposed development of a wind farm between Burnham-on-Sea and Brent Knoll, in an area known as “Burnham Without” have submitted an extensive document to the Planning Committee setting out its objections.
Andrew Manning, spokesperson for the group comments
“The key planning guidelines published by the Government covering wind farms is known as PPS22.
This document makes it quite clear that, like all developments, location, location, location is critical when considering any proposed developments.
We note that a spokesperson for Somerset County Council, referring to its soon to be launched “Somerset Wind Initiative” made a similar observation- some locations are suitable and some aren’t.
We believe that this re-inforces our position stated from day 1; whilst wind farms are arguably a good source of renewable energy, the proposed location near Burnham-on-Sea is not a suitable location, which has been selected by the developer on an opportunistic basis.
PPS22 examines location under a number of headings which may be summarised as follows;
We have made well researched and robust objections against these criteria.
We believe that rational assessment of this location leads to a simple conclusion.
“Burnham Without” should be “Burnham without a Windfarm.”
